Getting Started

Logging in

login screen The Operator has been designed to provide a login for each user of the software, in order to restrict access and save display preferences, although some systems may make this optional. For example, emergency managers may want to focus on a specific area. Preferences would be saved for individual users including map background preferences, zoom level, latitude and longitude. However, if user accounts are not enabled or a use has not signed in, general display settings including default map layers will be used.

The Operator obtains data from the NovaStar database using TriLynx's data web services.

error During the process of logging in and initially reading data, an error symbol appears at the top of the Operator to indicate data have not yet been read and will remain if data were not available. This symbol disappears once data have successfully been read in. After reading data, the time the data were last read is displayed. Every 5 minutes, the data is reread and the new time is indicated.

Another indication that Operator is successfully consuming data is visible through the menu. The colorful rectangles below each Data Display Layer indicate the number of stations at each hydrologic alarm level. If these rectangles are blank, data have not yet been read.
